Star Wars The Movie – Intro Text
Hi there, does any one know of a way or better yet – of a plug in to re-create the intro text used at the beginning of the original star wars movie?

If it were me i’d use after effects and move a 3d camera over a text layer, motion i’m sure does this too, alternatively phone industrial light and magic- someone there may still remember the method.

I tried to use the template few days ago (being in a hurry) and..my God what a mess of text I’ve made:-)
But I have to get it done because the template is brillant. And why to use a plugin having a bit of time and imagination? Like an in-door game for the rainy season.

This is easily created using the Basic 3D tool in FCP. Just tilt the text back and slide it along front to back.
For something that looks better, use Motion.
Better yet, use After Effects.
It’s all the same idea. Tilt the text on the X axis, scroll it along on the Z axis. You might need to add some motion blur if you’re doing an SD interlaced project.

Neither the free plugin nor the Basic 3D technique really produce the right look. They simply tilt the text block without the keystoning effect of perspective. A simple way to do it is in iMovie 06. It has a titled effects called Far, Far Away that recreates the Lucas title very well.

I’d use AE.
Build a comp with the text entering/exiting from the bottom/top of the frame.
Place this comp inside another comp and use the corner-pin plug to adjust the look of the text tilt as desired. Corner-pin adjustment can be used to widen the base as well as narrow the top of the text comp.

There’s a subtle, yet important aspect of this effect that I don’t see listed here, it’s the way the text blurs and then fades at the top, pretty easy to miss or NOT do correctly.
That aside, there is a little free app called SWTSG which is absolutely amazing, you simply enter your text and it’s done. Here’s the link:

Our freebie plug-in (mentioned earlier) *does* give you control over the text blurring as it fades into the distance. Because of the way the blur is applied (non-uniformly, via a depth mask) it also makes the colors fade away as they scroll to the back.
Star Titler comes with an image well to specify your own background and rotate it via a sphere map, which in my humble opinion is pretty neat 🙂

So far that’s the best thing I have ever seen! Now to figure out how to tilt down and add more stars. I was afraid that it couldn’t be rendered in 1080 but it does, simply WOW! And it free!! No BS trial version.
