  • Massive Source media Time Code offset

    Hi,

I have to conform a project to make an online but the original DigiBeta tapes have their TC offset(2:00:11:15) compared to the DVCams i was given to do the offline…

Ok, i can go shot by shot, take by take and change the TC…
I Media-Managed it so i had each take in a file.
It’s about 200 takes i have to recapture, and i must be careful not to mess up and have no surprises when i capture with the propper fixed TC…

I’m sure some wise guy will know some “automated” or at least a bit easier procedure…

At least some info about a free/cheap TC calculator working ok on OSX would be nice too.

    Thanks!!!

    Is the offset consistent?

If so export a batch list from FCP, then go into excel and change the media start and media end values by the offset amount.

Go back to the original off line edit and alter the master clips timecode using the function in FCP. Then all clip useage will reflect this change. Media manager will then be correct for the on line.

Even if you have already done most of the on line do what I said above and only capture the affected clips and get FCP to re-connect to them.

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

6 years after, I face the same problem. I tried to follow your path Jeremy. When I reimport the batch list after doing the math in excel the offset is taken into account but when I reconnect the media I loose the offset after the warning window… is there an extra little tip you forgot to mention?

    Hi, Greg.

Can you explain a little more about what you’re trying to do?

    Hi Jeremy,
I need to sync image files and sound files coming from a shooting. I expected to do that with pluraleyes but unfortunately, the camera did not record any sound. I have manually synced the first clips to find out the offset between the camera and the sound recorder. I would like to batch process the quicktime files and add the the offset and avoid the tedious manual sync. I know that I can modify the timecode of a clip in FCP but it is not possible to do it for several and I don’t know how to add two timecodes within FCP.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards.

No problem. This is a different problem than the original post.

So, you have video with tc, audio with tc, and you know the offset, correct?

I would use the free SequenceLiner from spherico. It allows you to sync, via tc, and align audio and video adding the offset in the process. This will work only if the offset is consistent from shot to shot.

    There’s also Sync N Link:

No problem. The only work if the timecode is consistently off, though, otherwise you will have to do some manual syncing.
