    Hello,

I’m wondering if anyone else has seen this and if they’ve discovered a fix.

I’ve noticed that if I render a DVCPROHD 720p23.98 timeline using Compressor, text generators get rendered in what appears to be the wrong aspect ratio. When I was making the frame captures below, I also noticed that the same problem happens with shape generators. I’ve had this problem using both the H.264 and Sorenson 3 codecs (haven’t tried any others), rendering at 640×360 (half res), 512×288 (2/5 res), and 384×216 (3/10 res). The problem does not happen if I render at 1280×720. I have trashed my preferences for both Final Cut and Compressor.

The problem also doesn’t happen if I render straight from the FCP timeline, either as a QT movie or using QT conversion. I realize I could export a QT movie and then compress that in Compressor, but sometimes it’s inconvenient to do that.

I’m running Final Cut 5.1.2 and Compressor 2.3. I haven’t yet been able to upgrade to 5.1.4, let alone 6 and Compressor 3. Would this problem be solved with an upgrade?

Here are some frame grabs. The rectangle (an imported TIFF file) stays the same size, but the text changes:

    Export using Quicktime Conversion:

    Same settings in Compressor:

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    – David

Export a reference movie from FCP (make sure the make self contained and recompress all frames boxes are NOT checked) and bring that into compressor. By exporting a ref movie, you are cutting way down on disk space and the export goes really fast as it’s basically creates a little database that link to the original files sitting on you scratch disk. Make sure you have gone into the Sequence > render all and Sequence > render selected menus and checked all the option there including ‘full’ before exporting. Then, render all those rt effects before exporting by hitting option-r (render all), then export the reference movie.

    Thanks Jeremy,

I realize I can use that method. I was just wondering if, first of all, anyone else had seen this problem (or if it’s something I’m doing wrong), and also, if there’s a fix or trick within Compressor in situations where I don’t want to compress my graphics twice.

    I’m having the same problem.

Here’s another post with the same issue:

I can do the work-around that Jeremy suggested but I would prefer not to.

    Thanks,
    – Rob

[Robert Turnbull] “I can do the work-around that Jeremy suggested but I would prefer not to. “

Just curious, but why not? I wouldn’t call it a work around, it’s more of the best way to do it while minimizing problems.
