mix 1080i and 480i final output sd letterboxed on FCP 5.2
I was hoping that it was as simple as creating a few sequences and then nesting the HD seq and SD seq into a final SD seq but the HD stuff looks baaaad. The HD was shot 30p as well as half of the SD on our HVX-200, but we also have footage shot on a cheap handycam. The HD footage is being used as the opener and then as intros for SD sequences. Final output has not been decided but could be Beta, DVD or DVCAM most likely letterboxed.

What are you monitoring the picture with and how does it look bad. You should be able to drop your HD clips or sequence into a SD sequence. After it renders all should be well. However, make sure the frame rates all line up. FCP doesn’t do those types of conversion very well.

I think I found out my problem. By changing the SD field dominance from lower to none my jaggies went away. Would this affect any other footage? I noticed these jaggies in both my cinema display and crt, but now they are crisp.
