  • Motion Graphics from AE into FCP 6 are jittery

Posted by Katie Mcphilllips on August 2, 2007 at 3:52 pm

I am having an issue with graphics rendered out of AE, using the Animation codec, imported into FCP 6 being jittery. I am editing in HD, using the DVCProHD 720 P24 settings in my project. The same graphics did not jitter before we upgraded to FCP 6 and Studio 2.
We can get rid of the jitters if we take the file back into AE and render it out using DVCProHD 720 P60 settings. But the graphic designer is using a PC and that codec isn’t available there.

Has anyone else had this problem or do you have any suggestions for us?

    Thank you

    Katie,

This is the perfect scenario for using sequential TGAs or PICTs. They are universal and as such can easily be used across platforms. If you are unsure about how to import them into FCP just write back…

There was a post recently talking about FCP 6 putting the shift fields filter on AE files imported into FCP 6. Check your filters tab and see if this filter has been added automatically. If so it is likely shifting the fields incorrectly. Disable the filter and see if the jitters go.

Are you monitoring these on a broadcast monitor? You need to because the FCP Canvas will not show you the true quality of your rendered graphics. You can get an aproximation if you set the Canvas to 100%. Try that.
