  • Settings to get DV50 in by 1200A FireWire —HELP

Posted by Phillip Powell on July 23, 2007 at 4:25 pm

I’ve tried every possible menu setting in the Panasonic 1200A and in FCP 6.0.1 to get a DVCPro 50 tape (FireWire input) to do anything in the log and capture window but show ‘Preview Disabled.’ I’ve got deck control, and the time code runs in the capture window. But that’s it.

I can switch to SDI input and bring in thru my Black Magic Decklink Extreme, but I’m trying to eleminate adding a duplicate frame of every 4th frame and maybe I’m mistaken, but thought you needed to come in by FW for that.

I have no problem capturing camera tapes from VeriCam, just change settings to match, and bingo, all’s happy.

But nothing in any (and man, there’s a bunch in ver 6) of FCuts set ups or the deck menues will do anything. Tried new project…nada.

Believe me when I say, I’ve tried ’em all. And just given up and rest to factory settings and started all over.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

    p2

It’s the deck and it’s confusing on how to do it, but it is possible. YOu need to set it in a couple of spots. Read the manual carefully.

it has something to do with 1394 out > 422 (meaning 4:2:2 dv50 and not 4:1:1 dv or 720p or 1080i). Once you get the deck setup, then you tell FCP you want the dv50 easy setup.

    I found it.

    Menu 895 50M -> Dif out, change it to 0000 (50M)

Also, I don’t know if your deck is auto or manual format playback selection, but if it’s in manual (menu 022 -> PB format -> 0000 manual) then you need to set menu 023 -> format sel -> 0002 422. That will select dv50 playback.

First use the DV50 easy setup in FCP then use these menu settings on the 1200A

    Menu #—–020–022—023—894—895—896
    Setting #–0001-0000-0002-0000-0000-0000

Sometimes you have to hit the “refresh” feature in the FCP View Menu for the capture window to find the deck. It works for me.

I don’t know why you have to duplicate every 4th frame when using SDI, I prefer going in SDI myself and have no problems that way.

I think he wants to capture 24p Advanced material as 24p.
