  Static Audio when monitored through Firewire

  Hello,
  I am having a weird problem when monitoring audio out of a Panasonic DVCPro AJ-1400
  via Firewire. The audio sounds “Staticy” it sounds fine when monitored via SDI however.
  I have tried multiple setups with different Laptops, Decks, Cables, clips shot on different cameras. Footage has come from multiple HDX-900s

  anyone have any idea what might cause this?

  Bad cable? FW bus power needing resetting via a PMU button?

  Thanks Jerry,
  I checked all of that, it is a problem a team in the field is having, and like I said they have tried multiple laptops / Decks / Cables / Cameras, you name it they tried it swapping it out.
  I tried it back in the studio and recieved the same results with a Tower and a laptop, again different decks cables etc…
  my only thought is it has something to do with how the audio is being recorded.

  any other ideas?

  Might be something about how the audio is recorded alright, maybe the camera(s) or the deck need a touch of calibration or something. If you reset the PMU and you know that the cable is fine, and the deck works OK otherwise, it’s likely something else which points at the camera’s recordings.

  Is it all tapes or do you have some that seem to work OK?

  yeah everything I have tested seems to point to how it was recorded, my research says FCP used to (possibly still does) have issues playing back 12bit audio over Firewire,
  however I believe the HDX-900 natively records at 16bit ( I am not a camera guy) any other ideas?
