I am a new FCP user and I am having trouble importing HDV footage captured from the JVC GY-100U HDV Camera. It has been captured by another editor (using FCP) to an external HD. I am having trouble importing the clips. With some I can only hear audio with a black screen and some clips says that they are unrendered. When I try to render the clips nothing happens. In the clip info i can see the resolution of these clips but nothing seems to be there. Like I said I am new with FCP, so any help and suggestions will be a great help. Thank you.

What is your version of FCP?
What version of FCP did the capturing?
    How was the footage captured?
    What are your timeline setting?

You need to give us a lot more information.

What is your version of FCP? 5.04
What version of FCP did the capturing? not really sure
How was the footage captured? through firewire using the JVC HD GY-100U as a deck
What are your timeline setting? frame size: 1280×720 HDTV 720 (16:9)
    Pixel aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: none
    editing timebase: 29.97
    quick time video settings:
    compressor: DV/DVPRO – NTSC

A buddy at work says that I need a codec, to work with HDV. Is that true?

I hope this helps. Thanks again.
