Interlacing on the Canvas?
Hey Guys,
One of the editors here where I’m working asked me why he doesn’t see interlacing on a clip in the Canvas, when he can see it in the Viewer and in QT.My answer was that he needs to hook up a NTSC monitor to see interlacing for any clip in the Canvas.
I think I’m right, but is there another reason that he wouldn’t be seeing these interlace artifacts in the Canvas, when they are clearly visible in the Viewer?

It’s always been my understanding that it is only displaying one field, which is one of many reasons you need an NTSC monitor.

Right…Viewer shows you exactly what the footage looks like…shows you what you have. The canvas shows you a low res proxy image, so that you get more RT on the timeline…which is why many many things are clear in the Viewer, but soft in the Canvas.

If you make the Canvas display 100% you will see both fields.

In some cases, the Viewer shows interlacing.

Yes, I was just thinking that too. Canvas set to 100% is also a good way to check the quality of your fx as well.
