I need to start doing that for web pages we are working on.
I’ve never worked with Flash before so I’m wondering what software to buy.
We need to upgrade to the Adobe Production Suite anyway, and I see it has
a program called Flash in it. Will this do what I need, or is something
    better for this purpose?

    Thanks,
    Dan

I’ve had this passed on to me by a client:

It’s a Win App, so I’m also looking for another way. To your question, I’d imagine doing this in Flash is the best way to go, if that is an option you’ve already purchased.

    Dan,

Check out Flix Pro https://on2.com/products/flix/flix-pro/?sid=CAGI-ALBA-45cf893873c7e&ref=. Its by the folks at On2 who created the engine for Flash 8 and 9 — its what I use and a great product.

Or you could just use the Flix Exporter, which is much cheaper. Check it out! Its worth the $200 investment.

Does Flix Exporter allow you to output your video with a player (skin) attached? I just want the generic bar below the video with play and volume controls.

    No, but Flip Pro does.

When reading the info on the Flix Pro link above, it talks about the flash video
needing to go through a special flash server to be streamable. This I also
don’t know anything about. With my h.264 files, I just hit the “fast start”
for streaming, and when clicking on it on a web page, it streams without
doing anything extra. Do you know if Flash is the same way, with options
for making it streamable or not?

Thanks for all the input above too.

Adobe has articles like this one that might be helpful.

    From the Flix Pro webpage:

“Outputs .FLV files (both 1-pass and 2-pass VBR) for easy import into the Macromedia Flash authoring tool.”

I don’t know anything about FLASH. Does this mean I need to work in Macromedia after creating a FLASH file from QT in Flix Pro? Or it the clip ready to post immediately?

    Cheers,
    Paul

    Paul,

A trained Flash expert using all the tools can get Flash video to do jump through hoops and do all kinds of cool things by writing “action script” in Dreamweaver (now owned by Adobe, as that article predates the sale of Macromedia). But, do you have to write action script and use Dreamweaver? No you don’t. However, if your Flash video files are very large, you might consider having a real Flash technician engineer your website so that video files download in a very elegant manner to your viewers using the more sophiticated progressive features that only the experts seem to be able to program.
