  Shimmering Metal Effect

  Hello everyone,

  I’m working on a title treatment that calls for:

  _tiny grains of silver, so that the title shimmers when it rotates
  _a kind of shimmer/glare with the rotation

  I want to use 3D text in after effects to achieve this effect.
  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this or do you need a real 3D package?

  Gradients combined with Fractal Noise / Noise.

  [kinetic] “_a kind of shimmer/glare with the rotation”

  More gradients, circles, glow effects.

  Not impossible, but mostly a 2D task – create the phenomena as separate layers, use blend modes and then only use your 3D pre-comp as a matte.
