  I understand the value of ProRes422 when working with full bandwidth HD.
  Is there any advantage when the footage is compressed xdcam or dvcpro HD and won’t be used for compositing?

  Yes…you would be moving from an 8-bit color space to a 10-bit color space which is better for rendering filters and color correction. Less “banding” issues.
