  New sound fx with FCPstudio2 need to be rendered?

  Just upgraded to FCPstudio 2 from studio 1. I like to use the sound files that come with Soundtrack Pro as temp fx. When I opened an older project that uses said files and relinked to the newer studio2 files(I erased the older ones thinking them the same) they all needed to be rendered in the timeline. I looked closer and it seems the new stock fx files are .caf (core audio files?)

  I guess my question is are the sound fx supplied with studio2 always going to have to be rendered in the timeline or are there some preferences or settings I can change to get these files to play without rendering in the timeline. Thnks.

  Most, if not all, of the SoundFX in the new Soundtrack are Surround Sound Fx, at least that’s what they told us at NAB. This is probably why they need to be rendered when in FCP.

  Yes. They are now in .caf format (Core Audio Format). This is actually the Apple Lossless Format. In addition to the Surrond Sound reason, this may be to save drive space for laptop users…there is much library content in FCS 2. Export from Soundtrack as AIFF 48k Stereo and you will be fine…or make a droplet in Compressor for this.

  Lordie, yet another import/export issue to make seamless integration between the suite’s apps a sick joke.
  W spent a semester teaching an AE class at Boise State. The integration in the Adobe suite was actually seamless and 90% bombproof/idiot proof. Moving comps and sequences between Premiere, AE, Audition and Photoshop was truly effortless.

  We just ordered our FCS2 upgrades. Oh, boy. Can’t wait. Not.

  Whoa Bogie….the integration is the same, if not better than before. You always exported from Soundtrack as an AIFF or .STP to get back to FCP…nothing has changed.

  The only minor incovenience is when you access the sound effects in Finder, bypassing Soundtrack. A Compressor droplet make that a snap, if you prefer to work that way.

  I would bet laptop users would welcome the drive space savings.
