  Shift Fields Error Part 2

  Found a disturbing issue with this erroneous “Shift Fields” error that pops up when upgrading an FCP 5.1.4 HD project to FCP 6. I opened up three DVCPro HD 1080i/60 projects. The original projects were all upper field first, both in the clips and the timeline which is correct.

  Ignore the shift fields error when opening the project.

  1080i/60 DVCPro HD timeline is still upper field first. This is correct.

  Open the Item Properties on all my clips in the timeline, they’re all Lower Field First. This is wrong.

  So re-rendering out the timeline results in a stutter in all the clips.

  This is really bad and really don’t understand how FCP completely changes the way the clips are interpreted.

  Bottom line, if you’re working in FCP 5.1.4, do NOT upgrade to FCP 6 unless you are finished with everything if possible.
