billboard’s transition effect
I would like to know if there is any transition effect or any free plugin available which resembles like that of Billboard’s (billboard.com) flash movie homepage (the movie changes from one picture to another). Or is it possible using After effects native transition effects? Please advise.

looks like gradient wipe to me. you just have to come up with the gradients

there is an old plugin called retrodots, i’m pretty sure its still free, i found it here:
https://www.philipp-spoeth.de/aftereffects/retrodots.phpi think you will need to use it to create a bw matte, and then use the matte as a track matte for you footage (or take your matte in to an nle and use it there as a transition).

In addition to what the others said, there are halftone transitions/ effects in pretty much every larger plugin collection. I definitely recall Sapphire having one and there’s some tools along those lines in one of the Tinderboxes.
