    Hi all,
I got this error message — “selection contains no video” — when I tried to use Compressor. I have the inpoint and outpoint properly set on the timeline and there is definitely video in my selection. I can play the video and I can export via Quicktime conversion. But when I try to export using Compressor I get that error message. I also tried on a different section of the timeline and got the same error.

Any thoughts as to what I might be doing wrong?

    Thanks.

Besides your in and out points you also must have one or more audio clips selected on the timeline. Click in any gray space to deselect clips.

Hi David. Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no luck, however. I deselected all clips and then selected the audio clip that lives inside of my in and out points. I still go the same error message from Compressor. I tried other alternatives — deselecting all clips, etc. — but never solved the problem. I assume this is operator error since I have only used Compressor a couple of times. But I know the error message, itself, must be incorrect because there certainly is video and audio in my selection. Any other thoughts appreciated.

I’ve seen this message when exporting to Compressor as well. What you want to do is this: in the Browser, select the sequence that you’re trying to export. Then, go to File -> Export -> Using Compressor.

Thanks Steve. You were right. I figured it was operator error.

I think this detail…having to select the sequence in the Browser…is a little silly. Why is there a need to do that? Nevertheless, I’m glad to you took the time to let me know about it.

    Cheers,

    Lee,

You shouldn’t really need to do that. That would preclude one from frame accurately selecting to encode parts of a timeline with Compressor from within FCP. Don’t know what’s up, because it sounds like you were doing everything properly. It works properly here, I just tested it again to make sure.
