Does anyone know of a step by step manual or article on how to setup a MacPro to take advantage of all the processors by creating a cluster in qmaster?

I unpacked my macpro and did some compressor encoding tests and was heart-wrenchingly depressed to find that it was taking longer then my three year old MacG5.

    Please help!

Apple has the Compressor manual on their site. It has a very detailed, step by step explanation of how to set up compressor for a cluster.

Yeah, it does… BUT it is so detailed and takes so many side roads, you get lost.

I’m still having difficulty setting it up properly. I’d love to have my Mac Pro and my G5 talking so that I could do large jobs over the weekend.

Has anyone figured it out, yet?

See my post about compressor above…. 30 + systems and churning. When it works, it’s awesome. We have experienced some random hangs that we don’t quite understand. On the other hand, if it only takes you 6 minutes to do what took hours previously, then you can just try it again and chances are, it will work.

    the quick question

did you check the box to allow compressor to be part of a render? it is a dialog when you install !

IF your not sure, reinstall the Q master Node engine from the extras folder on the installer disk this time check YES to the render engine install.

reset the background processing in Compressor

when you launch the batch monitor select the “cluster” rather than the machine itself.
