It’s even easier now with FCP 6.

    Thanks!
Just so happens I figured it out right after I posted it. Some day I’ll read the manual.

it’s featured pretty heavily on apple’s FC Studio 2 pages as well. that’s a huge improvement in 6.

What’s different about it? The P2 dialog looks exactly the same on the web site.

P2 import wont work for us. Dragging a clip into the queue gives us a spinning arrow for a bit, then a red exclamation. We know the clips are solid, we imported them onto a canopus with no problem. We can scrub and see the clip in the preview window, just cant ingest to a bin.

Any idea what to do here?

Actually, we discovered the problem. It was a corrupted LASTCLIP.TXT file. When we compared the copy on the FCP system and the copy on the FIrestore, there was a byte difference. We recopied over the LASTCLIP.TXT file, and presto! P2 clips imported no problem! What a relief! Dont know how it got that way – hasnt happened again since. Hope things work out as easily for you.

Let us know if it works for you.

good catch on the lastclip.txt file…

i’ll see what i can do; however, the media no longer exists on the firestore (it was shot a few weeks ago). i’ll search and see if there’s a similar workaround. i’ll post back to let you know how it goes.

thanks for getting back to me.

    glory to the cow.

Did you have any luck with this? I’m in the same boat.

Footage plays and scrubs in the preview window but gives me a red exclamation mark when I add it to the queue window. It’s coming off a hard drive so I can’t reimport the lastclip.txt file.

Any help will likely go toward securing your sainthood

    Cheers

Yeah.. for me it was user error. Final Cut was fine. Turns out that somehow I’d copied across the CONTENTS directory off my firestore drive, but forgotten the LASTCLIP.TXT file. I normally copy over both, but this particular time, I didnt. I spent the better part of two weeks pulling my hair out over this – cursing Apple every 15 minutes for not ‘properly testing Final Cut 6’, and in the end, I was the idiot.

Final Cut needs LASTCLIP.TXT to properly ingest P2 footage, hence the exclamation marks when its missing. Just make sure CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT are in the same directory, and you should be good to go.

BTW. Remember on the Firestore, the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.TXT folder and file dont show up till you do an ORGANIZE P2 task. And you cant record to the drive again after that. You have to do a format.

    Good luck.
