We’re expanding our fairly new department and looking for suggestions. We are setting up 4 FCP suites and 2 Avid suites. What would be the best way (hardware and software wise) to have all suites be able to access the same HD assets? Keep in mind that we’ll be looking to be able to add storage in the future. Also, any suggestions for software for our MacBooks that would allow everyone to manage projects, scripts, share etc. , well you get the idea. Thanks for your help.

Avid and FCP use different codecs!

I would go for Xserve Raid and Xserve Server: The raid is the best on Raid5 with brilliant speed (Fibrechannel) and works perfect with FCP and Mac. I know it’s expensive, but if you just think of going for a cheaper solution and having problems with it, it is worth every cent. The XRaid has got 14 slots with a maximum of 750GB per slot (Raid5 takes off some storage, but it is safe)
