  • External SATA/FW Enclosure recommendations?

Posted by Paul Huppe on May 23, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Can anyone recommend anything in the way of a Hot-Swap External Enclosure that has both SATA and Firewire 800?

I’ll be cutting on a MacBookPro 17′ and want to be able to copy files from/to a desktop FCP (thus the FW800), yet want the speed of SATA for 8bit uncompressed editing (running off a WieBeTech Express34 SATA card).

    Thanks,
    Paul

Firewire 800 units like the G-Raid 2 and Firewire VR will allow you to edit uncompressed 8 bit just fine.

    Thanks Shane,

Yeah, that would be the way to go for sure; however I’ll be capturing using the AjA IO Firewire box, so will need to go SATA to free up the connection. I just can’t seem to find a SATA solution that also has a firewire connection.

    G-Drive Q. USB 2.0, Firewire 400, 800 and eSATA.
