Correct broadcast safe filter for this setting (Max 75 % chroma)
We are finishing a tvshow and have received technical check list from the broadcaster.
Chroma lvl – max 75 %
Video lvl – max 100 %What is the correct setting in the broadcast safe filter for this ? Is it this ??
Luminance limiting:
Max output: 100Saturation limiting:
Reduce chroma/luma: 75Why does it say BOTH chroma/luma and not only chroma ?
This is in PAL land by the way.

This really doesn’t work. You need to set Chroma manually. Just look at your Vectorscope and stay inside the boxes.

Thanks for the info. So chroma must be done manually, but luma works, yeah ??

If going SDI in and out.. how accurate are the fcp scopes? Or should you have the hardware really ?

Yes, although you really want to adjust that manually first to get it close before applying the Broadcast Safe Filter because you can get some ugly clipping if you don’t. Say a shot is at 115 IRE and you just throw the Broadcast Safe Filter on it, you can get some ugly solarization type of clipping in the overly hot spots. Bring that down to 100 IRE first, then apply the Broadcast Safe just to knock any small spikes that exceed 100 and you’ll get a good clean image.

You should also be aware of how FCP is measuring the video. There were some updates to the vectorscope from 5.0 to 5.1 that you should understand.
To find this info, in FCP, click on Help – Late-Breaking News. It’s on page 6 if you have FCP 5.1.
Even at that, if you’re delivering on tape, the only way to be sure that you are in broadcast safe is to measure the video on hardware scopes from the tape master you made.
