    Hi,
I know this may be in the wrong place but with the absence of a quicktime forum or indeed an iMovie one(why would there be?) I’ll give it a go.
Someone has come to me with a problem they are having, they’ve been and got themselves a Panasonic HDC-SD1 camcorder, which uses the Advanced Video Codec HIgh Definition. This all sounds great until you want to edit the material. He is trying to get it onto his MacBook via iMovie, I’ve tried in FCP5.1.2 and still nothing, after having a look on various Pana forums it seems that it is not possible at the moment to edit this stuff on Macs without going through a very, very lengthy process of converting the .MTS files to .movs. On average it’s taking three hours to install and programme the codes, then a further hour or so per 5 minutes of footage…

So, I was wondering if anyone here had heard of a software codec that has, or is being written to deal with this problem.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Enge

If the camera has an analog output, capture that via a capture card (Kona LH series card comes to mind) as some other supported format. DVCPROHD or better…
