Best settings for graphics
Anyone help? Ive tried so many different settings im going square eyed.
Can anyone tell me the best settings to use for graphics? Im using a HD 1920×1080 animation loop for my background and then composoting parts of a logo, pictures and text over the top.Its to be watched in nightclubs advertising up and coming events etc.
For some reason im not getting a particualy good O/P. Im doing in everything in PAL so lower field first and making sure I bring in the Alpha channel with graphics etc.
Ive O/Ped with Quicktime, with commpresion set to ‘None’@25 fps and millions of colours+ but of coarse the file size is enormous and so wont play. Took it down to DVPal and looks utter rubbish.
Can anyone suggest the best settings/commpresor for graphics. I need to get this done asap.

you need to know the limitations of the play out device, specificly the data rate taht the system can play out. i will assume the play out device is a computer… so, what kind hardware does it have – is it parallel ata, serial ata, scsi, firewire??? does it have a disk array? and also, what kind of codecs does the play out device have?
i haven’t worked in pal, but if you wanted a starting point, i’d try hdv, or dvcpro100 (mac only). both will stay within the limits of firewire data rates.
also, i belevie that unless the hd sets are crt (most now are lcd, dlp or plasma), you probably won’t need fields (again, i haven’t worked in pal). progressive frames will generally give you better looking compressed renders than compressed field renders.

Yeah the playback device is key. As for a good output file…. I use quicktime with the animation compression but those still can be large you could try quicktime with h24 compression or Sorensen 3, but I suspect that anything HD will give you trouble. I would recommend making a dvd and then playing the ads with that, even on a laptop it should playback fine.

Its gonna end up being played on a DVD player into plasma/lcd tvs in a clubs. So I suppose it doesnt really matter that my background animations are HD (1920×1080) since it will played on a standard DVD player.
Im used to editing video but composoting it fairly new to, especially graphics. So…. When making graphics to import into a AE project what format should it be in? should I then just do the whole project in widescreen DVPal? Whats the best way to deal with the frames? Interlaced or progressive, its a mine field out there and its giving me a headache, not to mention a deadline.
So to re-cap, its gonna be PAL, played on DVD onto LCD/plasma tvs…
