Help!! I’m having a problem where FCP and my entire Mac will freeze (sometimes) during capture and export. It locks up to the point that all I can do is power down the Mac to reboot. I am trying to capture DV through a DSR-11 connected via Firewire. This has happened with three different drives (2 Maxtor Onetouch III 600GB & 1 Maxtor Onetouch III 500GB). All of which work fine on other computers. I have been using this setup with these drives and deck for over a year with no problems. Nothing has changed. The problem also seems to be erratic. It won’t lock up for a while (a couple of hours) and then all of a sudden, all it will do is lock up.

    I am running a Mac dual 2.5 G5 w/ 2 GB of RAM. Mac OSX v 10.4.9, FCP v 5.0.4.

    I have tried:
    -Trashing prefs
    -Reinstalling FCP
-Removing all peripherals except external HD
    -Removing all third party cards
-Running Apple Hardware tests (all passed)

Did you ever have a solution to this problem? My G5 seems to be suffering the same fate.

Sadly, no. Tech guy not figure out if it was the logic board or the processor that was bad – both costing about $1000 to replace. So I just got a used G5 on ebay for around that same price. The old one is still limping along and is OK for short usages and non intensive apps.

Here is what my tech guy recommended. I had Norton’s loaded and that is when my problem began. He trashed Norton’s and reloaded my operating system. At least that is what he told me he will be doing. I will be picking up my system this week to find out if it works. The other thing I learned from NAB 07 Mac Troubleshooting was that you should create a Pristine test account (log-on). Defer to it as a resource when your regular log-on is experiencing problems. It could be something that is inherent in your profile.

Never had norton installed. And I ruled out both hard drive and software issues by installing a different newly reformatted hard drive and loaded everything on it bare bones. Still had the same problems.

    Hi
My Macbook Pro is connected to two external hard drives one with an 800 fire wire and one with 400.
everything has been going fine then suddenly the other day it keeps freezing when I capture video.
It also doesn’t recognize one of the drives now. It just doesn’t load up and I don’t think anything happened to it.
I have trashed the prefs and undone all the cables and re-booted.
    HELP
