I’m trying to animate an arrow that grows after an object (the object being a render from a 3d bulldozer). I tried to make a solid and then draw the arrow shape with a mask then then to animate the mask shape as i see fit but at one point it just disappears, which i think has to do with the original size of the solid. 2ndly it needs to move appropriately (perspective wise) according to the render, best method for this is to enable the 3d option for the layer and adjust by hand or is it possible to involve a camera/motion tracking?

You have an arrow hitting a bullDOZER or a bullsEYE? Just wondering. Well I’d recommend finding a photo of an arrow, cutting it out in photoshop, then using it as a 3D layer. Not sure what your footage looks like, but motion tracking could be an option. Either that or, if it is a simple camera move, just hand-keyframe it.

it follows a 3d model of a bulldozer. It’s a vector arrow that follows it, figured i could attached the head with motion tracking or just hand key frame it but how do i make the body of the arrow grow (as in stretch after the bulldozer)

Guess i could add a particle emitter to generate the body of the arrow and attach it to the arrow head and then tweak the 3d positioning
