i put this in the Soundtrack Pro forum as well, but there is not much activity over there, and it relates to FCP anyway…but sorry for the double-posting of it.

i’ve stretched VO’s in SP before, but now i have a talent on camera who read his script a bit too slowly. i need to speed him up by about 10%. i can’t seem to get SP to speed the video along with the audio.

also, i’ve tried to speed up the pauses a little, but it doesn’t affect the overall time, it only kind of “scoots” the pauses…or speeds up the surrounding audio clip if i had inadvertently selected it.

here is what i would really like to do: first, speed up the pauses, where he turns from camera to camera, and as these pauses are speeded up, i would want the entire clip to be getting shorter (audio AND video); second, if speeding up the camera turns doesn’t give me what i need, then i will do an overall speed up to get him to his correct time.

of course, doing the speed up in FCP gives me a slight chipmunk sound since the pitch changes as well, which is why i was hoping to do it in SP.

    any ideas?

DO the audio in STP, and the video in FCP.

there is a “pitch” audio filter in FCP.

    controls are obscure,
but if you change clip speed to 110%,
try a pitch setting of -200
(it seems to work on multiples of 20 – when i slowed images to 86% a pitch setting of +280 worked for me)

the quality may not be to your liking,
    but check it out.

thanks for the pointers guys. i went ahead and did the video in FCP (@110% speed), then matched the final timing in SP. worked out very good…though a 10% speed increase is just about on the verge of sounding “funny”. looks like the guy just had an extra cup or two of coffee!

you should be able to timeshift in soundtrack pro and not pitch shift

just make sure not to speed up too much have a look in soundtrack pro manual for how much
