One long sequence or series of sequences?
I’m about to start cutting a full-length feature in Final Cut Pro. Is it best to edit the entire movie into one long sequence or break up each scene into its own sequence and nest them into the main sequence? I’d like to have each scene in it’s own sequence (for versioning, multiple changes, etc.)
But, here’s what I’ve seen. If I nest a bunch of smaller sequences into the main sequence, then any adjustment in length of the smaller sequences aren’t carried into the main sequence.
For example, if scene/sequence 1 is 2:30 in length, and I lay the Scene 1 Sequence into the main, it’s 2:30. Then if I make changes later in the Scene 1 Sequence, and now it’s 2:15, the Scene 1 sequence is still 2:30 in the main sequence. So, the changes aren’t reflected, and I have tweak the main sequence each and every time I make a change.
Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
