  need both 4:3 SD & 16:9 1080i of same video

  Learning the HD world (like MANY others), my client has requested BOTH a 4:3 SD & 16:9 1080i version of the same segment (all graphic images).

  I have designed the background in Motion in 1080i60 16:9 aspect and I like what I’ve come up with. As a test I converted the project to 4:3 SD and (of course) I lost MOST of my design. Therefore, I think I should come up with the design, then change the aspect, then reposition/resize all graphics then (in essence) have 2 separate projects.

  I hear everyone talking about downcoverting, but don’t hear about any repositioning of graphics.

  Am I right that there will be some repositioning?
  OR
  What am I missing?

  Is there an export/output option that does it more efficiently than duplicating the project then changing the parameters?
  My client asked if I could just crop the edges.
  I wouldn’t think its as easy as that, they are totally different resolutions and aspects.

  Todd- Why not deliver the SD in 16×9? Worst case it will be letterboxed on a 4×3 screen. Any TV delivered in the last 5 years will handle it fine and the viewer has lots of options with the remote. DVD is widescreen compliant. 4×3 is right there with VHS…. at the end of its useful life.

  Jerry-
  Thanks for the suggestion, but my hands are tied to the needs/requests of the client.
  They have just converted their whole delivery system to HD. The problem is that several of their vendors will continue to use the dvd players they have to loop these segments. They have requested total 1080i, then backtracked to ask for both formats. Your suggestion would have been a great way to accomplish the aspect ration part of my equation, but not what my client wants.

  I really need to have both 1080i & (4:3) SD.

  its not rocket science.

  if you need to deliver for both aspect ratios then you need to design your 16:9 version 4:3 safe, or create 2 separate versions each optimised for their respective aspect ratios
