I am having a problem with footage that was shot on DV with the Sony HDV camera. The footage was shot 16×9 and looks great on tape but when I bring it into FCP I have what looks like scan lines or field drop out in the picture especially when there is motion and especially on the edges of the subjects. I initally tried to firewire the footage in but I didn’t like how the footage looked so I tranfered the DV tapes to digibeta, just b/c that is what my system is set up for and what I work with usually. The footage looked great on the digibeta but again has the same problem when I work with it in FCP. I checked the field dominance and both the sequence and clips are correct. The only thing that seemed to solve the scan line problem was the deinterlace filter, but that really hurt the quality of the overall picture. I eventually have to burn the footage to DVD and I ran some small tests with compressor and the problem gets even worse, even on the best quality in compressor. -any suggestions?
