HD Broadcast video monitor advice
Hello All,
I have a G5 Quad FCP edit system with the Kona LHe card and a 30 inch monitor, and I currently shoot video with the Sony PDW-350 XDCAM HD. I am in the market for an HD broadcast video monitor and was wondering if there is one anyone would recommend, budject would be an issue. I am planning on requesting the PDW-F70 deck as well.
I’m only able to upgrade a little at a time, which is why I have this camera and edit system and am just now requesting the HD video monitor. I also already have a decent SD monitor, so one that does SD as well as HD isn’t an issue.

At this time, the Panasonic 1700W / 2600W LCD displays are the best for the dollar, along with the Panasonic Pro Plasma series.
But NAB is next week so who knows what will be announced in terms of monitors.

1280x 768 15:9 on the BT-LH1700W
and
1366×768 16:9 on the BT-LH2600
Wouldn’t it be neccessary to have 1920×1080 for critical mastering?

Nope, both monitors scale 1080i nicely as do our Panasonic Plasmas. My 50″ is not fully rastered to 1080i either.
Especially since he said budget is a consideration.

If you absolutely have to have full pixel-for-pixel resolution, you can always buy one of Panasonic’s native 1080p plasmas. Check out the TH-50PF9UK, a full 1080p native resolution display, for about $6K:
JVC’s 48″ D-ILA HD monitor is also highly rated – it’s reported to be equal to or better than Sony’s flagship HD CRT monitors. Oh, and be prepared to pay about $45K.
