  • Loading Audio Filters (Audio Units) slowing FCP startup

I’ve searched the posts, but this may be a first.

Until very recently I owned a series of audio plugs, which I loved, but their upgrade policy has become too expensive for me to agree with anymore. I have since removed and sold them on to a colleague.

Problem is, when I launch Final Cut, it goes looking for the old plugs (FCP calls them Audio Filters), and when it get to the 1st of a very long list of them, a dialog appears saying:

    *Could not instantiate Plug-In
Plug-In component is incompatible or not available*

As you can imagine, hitting enter 80 times is a pain!

Can anyone tell me what file/registry it is looking up that has reference to the old plugs? All the others still installed are fine. I would just like to get FCP to re-scan and update what plugs are on my system.

I have done a full de-install/re-install of FCP 5.1, and deleted (with File Buddy’s help) as many visible and invisible files as I thought looked suspicious, but no dice. I’m really hoping someone knows the actual process the app is going thru at startup and the files involved.

I also use Logic Pro, and have done fresh Audio Unit Validations – all good. But it doesn’t look like FCP uses AUVal, rather it does its own scan. In fact, if I install a new Audio Unit, FCP will pick up on it, usually hesitating and continuing thru a regular startup.

Please excuse the long post – hope someone can assist.

    Best,

    Adam
