10-bit Uncompressed to CinemaCraft Encoder on Windows
Hiya! Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated on this one…
We recently bought CinemaCraft Encoder SP2, and it was well worth the $2000 — the quality is nothing short of amazing. I’m about to start work on a DVD, and all of our capture equipment is FCP-based. I’d love to send CCE an uncompressed 10-bit MOV to work from, but the Windows version of QuickTime does not support that codec (as it’s part of the Pro Apps Support bundle).
Does anyone have any idea how to get 10-bit uncompressed video from FCP to something Windows can read, without having to compress or dumb down to 8-bit?
We are capturing through an AJA Io if that helps.

The apple codecs (Unc 8/10b) are not for PC, but have a look to the BlackMagic codecs. They are basically the same than the Apple’s, but are compatible and free from the DeckLink web site.

Another very interesting solution is the Sheer Codec. 10/8 b Unc (444/422). Really small files less than half size than any other Unc, and without the bugs of the Apple 10b Unc and compatible PC/mac. Since I’ve got it I do not use other 10b codec.

Thanks! I had thought about the SheerVideo codec, but wanted to make sure from somebody who knew before I spent the money. I found that many QT Mac codecs don’t reliably export to AVI (from FCP, at least — I always have better luck with QT Player Pro), and the Windows codecs are DirectShow, which is useless for a QT wrapper.
So, then… Would you suggest I take these files to CCE as SheerVideo or BlackMagic compressed MOV or AVI files? Either should work in theory, right?

I do not work with AVI files, but I’ve just downloaded the last up-date of Sheers and in the last Release Notes (v 2.6.2) I can read that they have been working a lot in theyr AVI codec. You can download the document fro their web site.
I bough the codec almost two years ago and the truth is that in the beguining I didn’t used much, but now I use it all the time. And if you are using a BlackMagic or a KONA those cards work (at least the BM) with the codec great.
I do not want to make publicity of the codec but I can not avoid to recommend it.

I can bak to this old thread to ask you about Cinema Craft. I wont to buy it (now that I have an Intel Mac). But i’m in the same situation about what codec export from FC to bring to CC.
Whch codec are you using? Which has you tried and with what results?
