DVCPRO HD frame size/resolution in FCP.
Hi.
Our project is DVCPRO HD 720P 25. My question is about the frame size; in browser when looking imported DVCPRO HD 720P clips, frame size is described as 960×720. But that’s 4:3 resolution. Though the picture is 16:9. Aren’t all HD formats 16:9? Shouldn’t the frame size be 1280×720? The camera we are using is Panasonic AJ-HDX900E. And the CCDs are 1280×720.
In sequence settings the frame size is also the same 960×720. And the pixel aspect ratio is 960×720.
So can someone explain why isn’t the frame size 1280×720 and why? And since it’s not are we losing 1280-960=320 frames in width?

DVCPRO HD is an ANAMORPHIC format. 12800×720 squeezed into a 960×720 frame. FCP unsqueezes it when you edit. And you’d need a proper 16:9 monitor to view it, or people will look tall and thin.

And the same goes for HDV, anamorphic as well.
Do NOT make any changes to the Easy Setup Capture and Sequence Presets or you’ll be rendering everything.

Also, HD Cam gets recorded to tape anamorphically as well.
It saves on bandwidth.

I don’t know if I should post this here or in After Effects, but here goes…
I’ve exported a clip to be worked on in AE, in AE the clip shows as 1280 x 720… if I keep the same pixel aspect ratio, the image is distorded (too wide) since the comp is at 960×720….If I set the pixel aspect ratio on the clip to square then it fits the comp, but the comp is set to DVCPro 720, and the pixel aspect ratio is HDV/DVCPro HD anamorphic 16:9…. I need to bring that back into Final cut pro, should I go with square pixel ratio on my clips to get right after in FCP, or do I need to work in 1280 x 720 square all the way…

You have failed to mentioned what codec you are working with in FCP. I can take an educated guess….but…
