HD Monitor lagging
I’m using FCP 5.1.4 and AJA LH.
DVCPro HD 720p 24fps captured via firewire.
I been doing some tests and the monitor plays slower than the timeline. Also, editing to tape the audio is not in sync. What is the best way to view the time line and record to tape? It seems AJA does not have 24fps under its external viewer. Only 59.94 and 60fps for 720p. Any suggestions? Thankx! -

Use the AJA KONA 720p59.94 8-bit option. DVCPRO HD is a 59.94 codec, and streams to the monitor as such. You do not want to see a true 23.98 playback on your monitor…it flickers like all get out and will most likely cause you to have a seizure.
I have no such lag issues. Perhaps you need to play with the offset in the AUDIO/VIDEO preferences?

Make sure you’re getting your audio through the video card and not through the built-in audio of the Mac. The video card is designed to compensate for any delays of video delivery to your monitor, and ensure the audio remains in sync.

I made sure my audio follows my video through the AJA and it still lags. I just captured DVCPro HD 720 59.94 via firewire and I’m still lagging on my monitor. The viewer is set at DVPro HD 720 8Bit AJA. It may be my computer. I’m not sure. Thanks for all of your help.

Offset was at 4, put it to 0 and still lagging. The footage in the monitor looks like its in slow motion. The audio is playing at normal speed. Hmmmm.

It sounds like you’re Dropping Frames. Do you have your User Pref set to ‘report dropped frames on playback’? otherwise it’ll keep plowing ahead and try to catch the video up with the audio

I switched to “report dropped frames on playback” and it is still lagging. I just edited an SD uncompressed 8 bit throught the AJA and no problems on playback. I’m having issues with HD. I’m sorry for all the trouble.

An interesting thing is happening…When I resize my timeline option to 1280×960 and render… The darn thing plays correctly in the monitor. I did this yesterday and thought it might be a fluke. But it worked again today. Any suggestions? The original size of the files are 960×720.

960×720 is correct for DVCPro HD. You have something very wrong either with your setup or with the card. Call AJA in the morning.
