  • Problems capturing to FCP from Sony J30

    I’ve been having issues capturing from a Sony J30 to a G5 (Dual 2GHz, 1.5GB RAM).

The tape keeps stopping at random moments and FCP gives a tape error message though there is no problem playing the tape when not capturing.

Is it a settings issue within FCP? Have deselected all ‘abort’ choices and am not doing DVD Start/Stop detect.

Any help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

Do you have the J30 referenced? It is designed to have an external video reference.

Also you haven’t told us how you are capturing. If it is via a card (Kona/ Decklink etc) then they generate a reference video signal that should be fed to the J30. Alternatively both the J30 and FCP should be synced to an external house video generator.
