  Sending proxy clips shot on AJ-HDC27 over internet to offline on FCP

  What are my options?

  We want to somehow upload footage to a server of some sort from location so that we can download them over here in post and do an offline edit.

  First, what would be the best form of compression so that we wouldn’t have to uncompress the footage in order to edit in Final Cut, while at the same time compressing it big time in order lessen the amount we have to upload?

  Depends on how much footage you’re talking about. Three hours? or Thirty hours?

  Regardless, unless you have t-3 lines at both the upload location and the home office, you’re looking at a VERY LONG process.

  do a google search on “Digital Dailies” and you’ll find plenty of companies offering their services. Some offer proprietary boxes to compress and upload the images. Other offer interesting “interactive options” for review and approval. If you’re looking to do this yourself, be aware that in this case there is no “free lunch”. Either you pay for the heavy duty connectivity (t1 or t-3) lines or you’re gonna be compressing it to look worse than “You Tube”.

  What are you trying to save, Time or money? You can’t do both.

  I’m all for the FedEx-ing of a drive to someone with the footage on it.
