Just upgraded to FCP 5, and having some workflow difficulties. Can anyone tell me why I can’t paste content without the name change rippling back to the master and other instances of the same clip? It makes it difficult to keep track of what you’re doing.

It’s the way the software is designed… if you log clips, say via subclips, naming them what they will now and always be, there wouldn’t be an issue for you…

The other thing you can do is once a clip is in the sequnce, right click it to select “make independent”. It will then lose it’s relationship to the clip you took it from… and renaming it will not change the rest of the clips’ names. However… If you do things this way and you for any reason need to reconnect the media, you’ll likely have a headache on your hands. That’s why subclipping first makes a lot more sense to do.

    Jerry,
how about just dragging the clip from the T-L back to the Browser and re-naming it there?

    Cheers
