  • FCP suite programs not working

Posted by Neil Gregory on January 24, 2007 at 11:57 am

    Hi

I have encountered a problem- FCP works fine although Motion, Soundtrack, Livetype, and DVDSP will not launch. Other non-FCP related programs work fine.

    Has anyone encountered this?

I have a dual pro G5 with all the latest updates

    Please Help

    Neil

Do you have at least 1 Gig of RAM? That’s required for a lot of the new releases in FC Studio (as well as for HD in FCP).

Check the system requirements and make sure you have ALL of them. If you’re a veteran PC user, know that Mac software works differently than PC software. Many programs will not run if certian system component are not present. On a PC, your software will just run slower or crash a lot if you have an older proessor, less RAM, less powerful graphics card, etc. Mac software just won’t run.

If your system is up to snuff, are you getting an error when you try to boot the other software, or does it just bounce in the dock for a while and then give up??

    Thanks for than Ben,

I have plenty of RAM and my system is fully specd. I have been using the programs for a number of years (its not a new machine).

I do not get an error message- The Program window appears (where the loading text normally appears) and just freezes up. I have to force quit the application which is ‘not responding’

Without full system information, it’s like picking a needle in a haystack.

It’s very important that you check the crash logs for the application(s) you’re trying to launch. The logs contain a wealth of information and will even tell you if there’s a missing piece of software that’s stopping the launch process.

Compressor 1 and Compressor 2.0 not compatible with Qmaster 2.1 (included with Shake 4.1)
If you have installed any version of Compressor other than 2.1 (part of Final Cut Studio 5.1), it is important to note that the Compressor software relies on the Qmaster software.
Shake 4.1 includes Qmaster 2.1 (installed via the Node Installer), a later version of the Qmaster distributed processing technology, and does not work with Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x.
In order to maintain compatibility with earlier versions of Compressor, Qmaster 2.1 should not be installed on the same startup volume with a Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x installation.
    Products Affected
    Compressor 2.0.x
    Compressor 1.0.x
    Final Cut Studio 1.0
    Shake 4.1
    Qmaster 2.1
    Solution
If you have installed Qmaster 2.1 on a system with Compressor 1.x or 2.0.x you can resolve issues with Compressor by upgrading to Compressor 2.1. Compressor 2.1 is available as part of Final Cut Studio 5.1. Upgrade options are available at <https://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/>.
If you are unable to apply the upgrade, you can reinstall QMaster 2.0, but first you must remove components that were updated by the QMaster 2.1 installer.
