  • Video in Canvas window has red wash effect

Whenever I stop the playhead, the video frame in my canvas window instantly has a full frame of a red wash over the screen, like you’ve
put a 50% transparancy of full red color over it. (When “playing”, all is normal) This is extremely annoying, plus resulted in some of my exported freeze frames for an IDVD menu to have this “red wash” effect. Is there some setting I’ve missed in my Preferences or FCP Video playback settings? 2 of my friends that have FCP 5 have not experienced this.
I’ve edited 6 projects on this system with this problem.

    FCP 5.0.4
    G5 Quad 2.5
    16 gig ram
    Stock video card
    (2) G-Raid Firewire 500 Drives.

That’s the viewer showing you what is transparent (the alpha channel). Towards the top of the viewer there are 3 pill shaped buttons. choose the one in the right that looks a little like a box. In there change the check mark from the RGB+alpha to the RGB setting.

Thanks Jeremy! I feel “dopey”. I use photoshop every day at work and very used to the “red effect” which shows you your Alpha Channel. I just
    didn’t make the connection!
