I’m gearing up to do an animation with 3d elements mixed with after effects. I need to get the same camera between the two programs (ae & blender) I have a lightwave .mot but cant import it into AE. AE can import a maya scene .ma which i’m assuming has camera info in it. but blender won’t export a .ma I have 3ds max for conversion pourposes but couldn’t get that to import the .mot either
    any suggestions would help

So many programs, but all the wrong ones, I’m afraid. Dunno, unless someone wrote a Python script for Blender to spit out copy&paste data in a text file or a converter for your other programs, It’s more or less bound to fail. *.mots are not even scene files, so tools like deep Exploration or Polytrans won’t read it, either. The only sensible advise: Find someone with Lightwave.

If you can find Al Street’s Transmotion Utilities Pack for Lightwave, it might help.

Mmh, it still requires Lightwave, though (at least for a few seconds to convert the data). ;O)

It’s been a while since I’ve used the TM pack, but I think blangbauer’s MOT file might be enough. Or not. 🙂

Transmotion is based on LScript which only runs inside LW. So without it – no go.

You can embed camera data in RPF files.
Can you just render a RPF sequence out of Blender?

    RLA should work too.

I’d do an RLA test first. Last I saw, LW’s implementation of RLA was kind of bad around the alpha edges.

No blender doesn’t export rpf I think probably the best thing to do is to do it right and use 3ds max from the get go
