monitoring FCP on an NTSC Composite monitor
I’m tring to figure out the best set-up to be able to edit on FCP from Beta SP I’m using a AJA card and junction box. The deal is that the junction box can component output that go to my Beta SP PVW 2800, si I can output to tape. I have a composite NTSC monitor, that’s connected to the composite output of the Beta SP deck, so I can monitor the picture. I’m getting the black sync bar on my monitor, which is not good as I want my clients to be able to watch this monitor as I edit.
I’ve tried connecting a Horita Black burst generator to the Reference in on the deck, with no luck. (Switching it off and on eventually stabilizes the monitor picture for a short while.) I also tried connecting it to the reference in on the AJA card, with the same bad results.
This should be very basic here. Any suggestions? Do I need to buy a DA as someone else suggested? If so what kind? Do I need a patch panel as another person suggested?
I had a third guy say I should loo the Y signal from the junction box through my monitor and back to my deck, but I would think that this would result in a lower quality video signal recorded back to tape.
Help! Thanks much
