    Hi,

    Ok here’s one for ya…..

All of a sudden my video won’t play in the preview viewer. It just chugs and won’t display on my TV either. Video plays fine from the time line, smoothly and on my monitor. Video also plays fine in the play viewer as well.

I tried closing FCP and shutting down my deck, is this a computer re-start issue?

I like to drop clips into the preview window, mark fine ins and outs, then drag it onto the time line. Now I can’t do this because it won’t play back properly.

I have 666 clips loaded into this project, does that affect it? It was fine yesterday.

    Thanks
    Richard

PS: Or does the # 666 have some thing to do with it?

    1. Make sure the window is not edging off the computer screen.
    2. Click “Fit to Window” in the small left oval menu.
[Select the Canvas or Viewer > Command 4 > Shift Z (Fit in Window)]

    Richard,

Please don’t take offense, but it certainly seems that you are having an unfair share of issues with FCP. Have you thought about taking training?

No offense taken. I don’t have time to take training as I need to get this project done ASAP. It’s a cuts only project so I, and FCP, should be able to handle it. Also, no idea where I would find training in southern Ontario. If I could cut this project in Premiere I would have it half done by now, I’m a whiz with Premiere. If there’s a FCP expert in S. Ontario who wants to sit with me for a day, please do. You will be well paid for your time.

Also, if this forum is any indication, FCP give a lot of people a pain in the neck.

In any event my viewer stil won’t play the video properly, even when I re-start a new project 🙁

If your visit to the hospital is any indication, almost everyone is sick.

People without problems don’t post questions. Considering the amout of copies of FCP out there, the traffic on this and other forums is minor. Every bit of software is tricky. I’ll wager if I was handed Premiere and asked to cut something NOW…I’d be scouring the forums and posting questions like mad.

See if this is your viewer issue:

    #15 White or Black Canvas

    Shane’s Stock Answer #15:

Make sure the canvas or viewer are selected then go to VIEW>CHANNELS and set it to RGB. It might be set to ALPHA.

    Shane,

I think that is by far the wittiest post ever on this forum. You may well have raised the bar for the rest of us. We will all have to think twice as hard from this point forward.

    Richard,

Like Shane says, working on any NLE is never easy when its new to you. I think you wil find over time that many of the things which are giving you fits now will all make sense eventually.

In any case, we all try our best to help those in trouble. Just hang in there…

Oh, and I think Shane is right about the settings for your viewer causing this issue.

Yes, thanks all, problem fixed. Making it fit the window is what it wanted.

But here’s the bizzare thing, I’ve been cutting on FCP for a month now…how on earth did that setting suddenly get changed?????????

    Weird.

I’m not trying to knock FCP, it has some features that are better than Premiere, no doubt about that. I need to write a program that contains the best of what I like about Premiere and FCP 🙂

    Thanks

Just think back to when you first used premire, probably lots of questions then to.

You likely hit a key combo with that window selected that zoomed the size.

I used the Vulcan mind meld with Premiere and learned it in 22 seconds. Why can’t Apple do that?
