    Hello,

I have a strange situation that I have never encountered before. I was working on one project and capturing footage. A couple days later, I had to pull up an old project and make an edit. Then a few days after that, went back to capturing the original project and forgot to change the scratch folders back. In the meantime, I deleted the scratch folders for the older project. When I went to open the original after this, numerous clips were offline. I had to recapture a few tapes…no problem.

Here is the problem I am running in to. I had already created a multiclip that contained 2 of the recaptured clips. On my timeline everything is fine and in sync. I can click on the multiclip in the browser and it shows up on the viewer. However, when I go on the timeline to take a look at other angles and double click to pull all angles up in the viewer, it says “Error: Out of Memory.”

Memory left on that drive is approx 135 gigs. Memory left on computer HD is 115 gigs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Quit FCP, trash your preferences, and try again.

I already tried this. Didn’t help!
    Thanks for the suggestion though!

Try deleting the last render file associated with the sequence. Or extend it to the last 10 render files. I’ve had this problem before and my parameters where similiar to yours. This seemed to work.

Also, check the size of your Final Cut Pro Project Files. If things get stacked up in your project and the file size starts to push over 300mb, you might run into this problem (“Error: Out of Memory”). Look for redundent or duplicated files in your projects and maybe delete them. Or create a new project and import the sequences you need to work on in to the trimmer, leaner project file.

You’re confusing memory (RAM) with storage (hard drive space). The “out of memory” error has nothing to do with the amount of space left on your hard drive. The problem is that Final Cut Pro doesn’t have enough RAM to do what you’re asking it to do.

How much RAM do you have installed (look in Apple Menu -> About this Mac)? And, how much is Final Cut Pro set to use?
