    I have a technical question:

For Reference purposes, I am using a MacPro 3.0, FCP v 5.1.2 and DVD Studio Pro v 4.1.1. I am working on a conference piece that has 14 seuences that total 13 hours of video.

First: When I export a Sequence from FCP as a self contained movie with “markers” set to “DVD Studio Pro Markers” the chapter markers don’t show up when I import the movie and place it in the timeline in DVD Studio Pro . All the markers were set in FCP as “chapter markers.” When I export the movie with the “markers” selection using “chapter Markers” the markers do show up in DVD Studio Pro. I’ve searched in the manual and this post for answers to why the export as “DVD Studio Pro Markers” doesn’t include the chapter markers and can’t find the answer. Obviously I can export each sequence with the “Markers” set to “Chapter Markers” and have them all show up in DVD Studio Pro when I import the movies, but I really want to know the difference between the two settings and how to use them efficiently.

I want to thank you in advance for the education on this detail.

double hit “m” when adding your markers, and click chapter marker in the box.

I’ve taken that basic step already when I edited the material.

Mot people make this same fundamental error the first time they try chapter markers. You are leaving out one or more of the less-obvious steps. You can trust me, it’s a user error. When you figure it out, you’ll be quite pleased with how easily this is to do.

Try a short sequence and place your chapter markers carefully, following the instructions in the FCP manual.

However, the easiest way to do chapter markers is inside DVDSP.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Bogesian,

Thanks for the advice. I do remember 8 months ago reading your moniker “read the freakin manual” and I took it to heart then. Good advice. I try to exhaust all my resources before I put out questions to Cow and risk looking like an idiot. I’ll recheck the manual for the 5th time – just to make sure I’ve got it right.

Once again though, The chapter markesr all work well in DVD Studio Pro when I export the sequence with “Chapter Markers” set instead of export for “DVD Studio Pro Markers” so I don’t think it’s user error – but of course it wouldn’t be the first time I made a mistake.
