Got a problem … hope I can describe it.

You know when you “Print to tape” the computer screen goes black and you get the window that says “Press record …”

Imagine that black screen without the window. If I run my mouse to the top of the screen the pull down menus appear, but besides that my computer screen is black.

Whenever I launch FCP 5.0.4 on my I-mac G5 running OSX 10.4.8 that is what I am getting. If I go to another program my screen comes back. If I try to “Save as…” my screen comes back and then reverts to black after I hit “save” or “cancel”. In fact, I can go to the top pull down menus and do any of those functions.

Before today this occurred after I printed to tape. I could quit FCP and restart the program and everything would be like normal. It was one of those problems that I had an easy work around for and figured I could ignore it. Now it has gotten worse as it occurs whenever I launch FCP.

Has anyone seen something like this? I used to run Media 100 and whenever a glitch like this would come up I would erase the preferences and that would fix many strange happenings. However, I don’t think I can do that anymore. Is there another way to “reset” the program. I suppose I could reinstall the software, but I’d like to try a few things before I do that.

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Wow – just ran the security update from apple 2007-01 and now when I launCH FCP 5.1.2 the screen goes black. Weird.

I’m on a powerbook g4 1.5 right now – I’ll go home and try it out on the Mac Pro to see if I am having the same issues.

    Any solutions out there?

Press APPLE-F12 and see if that doesn’t clear it up.

That gets you into Digital cinema Display mode.
