STP-FCP don’t sing in harmony
I had a stereo pair, which was actually two tracks panned center (0), and exported a Quicktime movie of it to Soundtrack Pro, did the STP magic on it, saved it with a new filename, and reimported it to FCP. When I look at the audio files in the Viewer, they are both panned -1. Oddly, the audio doesn’t seem to be panned in actual fact. The Left/Right audio meters are in perfect sync. Odder still, when I imported audio from a client, the same thing happened.
What gives? I’ve had a lot of problems with the whole FCP-STP process.
For example, I use stereo pairs, because mono pairs don’t show up in STP. (I did a search on this issue in this forum and found that someone had noticed this many months ago — so this can’t be a MacPro issue.)
For another example, the alleged round-tripping capabilities of FCP and STP invites FCP hard crashes. That’s why I export files, and rename them, rather than using FCP’s Open in Editor or Send to STP Project. Too many crashes otherwise, when I commit the sin of Following the Manual…. I’m posting here, because I haven’t gotten responses to my FCP/STP problems on the STP forum.
I hope Apple clears this up. Maybe this is a MacPro issue. But as I recall, Apple owns FCP, STP, and MacPro…. Do you think anyone from Apple reads this forum?
