i’m editing a documentary that i shot in 24p advanced, anamorphic, with the dvx100a, and am editing on a 23.98 sequence.
now i also have some footage that was shot on a cheap little miniDV camera, that’s regular 30fps and 4:3.
what is the best way to conform that to 23.98 and convert to 16:9?
i tried scaling it in after effects, then doing the conform with cinema tools, but the result makes my already pretty low quality footage look even worse. is there any way to knock out those 2 conversions in one render?
is after effects and cinema tools even the best way to do those things?
    thank you for your help.

Anytime you take 4:3 footage and blow it up as much as you have to to make 4:3 footage fit a 16:9 frame it will seriously degrade the image. The face that you are doing it with DV, and from a very cheap camcorder (as you mentioned) guarantees that it will look bad.

You can try Compressor as I have had luck with converting DV to HD 16:9. But again, “garbage in, garbage out”…if your footage isn’t that good to begin with, blowing it up larger will only make it worse.

You can accomplish this with Re:Vision Effects’ FieldsKit and Twixtor. Read this review on the Cow for more details:
