No Audio Capture FCPHD – not the regular problem
I’ve gone through the archives and looked extensively for a solution to my problem and, having found none, I come now to everyone for guidance. I’m running FCP HD/4.5 on a Dual 2.5G machine, tons of RAM, OS 10.4.8. I’m capturing NTSC analog video through the Canopus ADVC-100 and the problem is I’m not getting audio. The monitors play the audio I know is there, but it’s not getting captured. I have multiple decks connected and have tried capturing through the Beta deck with the same results, so it’s definitely software-related.
I’ve tried trashing prefs & FCP user data, and View/External Video is set to Off.

Make sure when you have Log & Capture open, in Clip Settings, that you have the Audio box checked. I know that’s pretty basic, but sometimes the simple things are what trip you up. I’ve made that mistake before and given myself the classic forehead slap and “Doh!”.

I don’t specifically see an audio box to check, but under Clip Settings I am attempting to capture Aud+Vid. And I’ve certainly slapped my forehead before, so thanks for having me check the obvious!

While you’re checking the obvious, I think the analog inputs are on the back of the unit. The outputs are on the front. (or is it the other way?) Double check your connections. I also sometimes have to restart my whole system to recognize the box.

I checked the connections and everything’s fine. I also have the monitor running out from a splitter at the same level as the input and I can hear audio that way but no dice through FCP. I just now did a hard restart after trashing the prefs yet again with no luck. I wish I knew what was happening!

Have you actually captured something and checked the file? The audio meters do not register during capture even though you are capturing audio.

Yes, I’ve checked the captured file, and it is completely without audio.

I’m out of ideas. Try a different firewire cable? Do you have a DV camera that you could test your fire connection with? It might be a problem with the ADC unit.
