  • Time Code Break creates new incomplete clips

I’m trying to capture HD DVC pro tape through the Kona LHe board on a G5 using Final Cut Pro 5.
1.2. Every time the camera cuts to a new scene, the capture detects a timecode break. To keep the captured timecode accurate, it creates a new clip however it doesn’t capture the new clip right from the beginning. It begins capture several seconds into it, missing the first few seconds. Shot properly, this shouldn’t be a problem. But it wasn’t, and some clips could be used right from the start. So here are the questions:

    1. Is there a way to make it capture from the start of each new timecode when it creates new clips?

    2. Is it possible to capture the whole tape as one clip AND maintain the correct timecode?

With Start / Stop detection on here this works flawlessly off our Sony HDV deck. Just hit Capture Now and capture continuously runs, but at each start / stop of the camera, a new clips is created and probably only a few frames of the shot is lost, not seconds.

No. If you turn off Start / Stop detection and turn off “Create New Clip” on timecode break, FCP will generate new timecode from the time of the first break. The TC will be continuous from where it starts, that is if your tape starts at 01:00:00:00 and it’s a 30 minute tape, your TC will run continously until 01:30:00:00 and the tape stops.
