  Novice 16:9 question

  I’m working on my first project in 16:9, and am just looking for some clarification.

  Everything that I’ve imported into FCP 4.5HD has come in letterboxed. In my recent reading, I found that this may not be correct, so I checked and the anamorphic box is not checked in the capture settings, nor do any of the captured clips say that they’re anamorphic in their properties listing.

  I assume that I did something wrong here. Can anyone educate me as to what I’ve done wrong, whatthe ramifications are, and if there’s anything that I can do about it short of having to recapture all the footage?

  What format video and how did you get widescreen video? What camera? Is it built in or did you use an anamorphic lens?

  If its real anamorphic then you have to check the anamorphic option under the properties of each clip (one at a time) in your bins. I don’t think FCP can interpret (like most apps) what is and what is not anamorphic.

  In a 4:3 project, they will naturally letterbox.

  The footage was shot “widescreen” but just as letterboxed 4:3.
